Once you've configured your tip settings, Salaris handles tip importing as part of the payroll run. How tips are brought in depends on the tip source you've selected in Settings.
Tip sources
If your tip source is set to SocialSchedules or Workforce Management, tips are imported automatically when you run payroll — no extra steps needed. You can still edit tip amounts against individual employees on the View Payroll screen or Tips screen, if needed. Note that any changes made in Salaris will not be reflected back in SocialSchedules or Workforce Management.
Tips payable (i.e. paycheck tips) will be displayed against the Payroll summary under the Tips column.
Tip Source: Workforce Management
When importing timecards from Workforce Management, unassociated tips and gratuities need to be manually in Salaris Payroll for the pay period.
If they have been paid out previously in cash and only need to be included in payroll for tax purposes, there are two options:
add them manually under each employee as earning type = cash tip
add them in bulk for multiple employees on the add tips screen in the cash tips columns
If they have not been paid out previously and need to be included in payroll to be paid out, there are two options:
add them manually under each employee as earning type = paycheck tip
add them in bulk for multiple employees on the add tips screen in the paycheck tips columns
Tip source: Manual entry
If your tip source is set to Other — I'll enter them manually, you'll see an Add Tips option on the Payroll summary. This will become active after the Import payroll button has been clicked (i.e. the draft payroll has been generated).
Add/Edit Tips in Spreadsheet view
Clicking Add tips opens a spreadsheet view listing all employees within the payroll. From here you can:
Enter tips one by one or
Copy and paste from an existing spreadsheet or document
Reimport: If the payroll is reimported, your tip data is remembered — you won't need to re-enter it
Edits: Any changes made on the View Payroll screen are reflected in the spreadsheet, and vice versa
Workplaces: If the payroll includes employees from multiple workplaces, a separate spreadsheet will be shown for each workplace — allowing tips to be recorded per workplace for taxation and reporting purposes.
Add/Edit Tips in View Payroll
Regardless of tip source, tip amounts can always be added or edited against individual employees directly on the View Payroll screen.
When working with tips in the View Payroll, there are two tip types:
Paycheck tips — tips that need to be paid to employees through Salaris Payroll
Cash tips — tips already taken home by employees. These don't need to be paid through payroll but are reported on paystubs for tax purposes
