Salaris handles two types of tip management: paying tips through payroll, and reporting them on employee paystubs for tax purposes. This article walks you through how to configure both.

Navigation
Navigate to Settings>General.
Step 1 — Choose your tip source
Under Import tips, select where tip data should come from. Only one source can be selected at a time.
Option | When to use |
SocialSchedules timecards | Available if you have an active SocialSchedules integration. |
SkyTab Workforce timecards | Available if you have an active SkyTab Workforce integration. Tips are sourced directly from the SkyTab POS. |
Other — I'll enter them manually | Allows you to upload tips via spreadsheet during the payroll run.
Choose this option if you calculate tips manually or via a tip pooling solution. |
We don't pay tips | Select this if tips aren't paid to employees. Any tips on imported timecards will be ignored. This is the default option. |
Note: Regardless of which source you choose, tips can always be manually added or edited against individual employees during the payroll run.
Step 2 — Decide which tips are paid through Salaris
All tips imported into Salaris are recorded on employee paystubs for tax purposes — but not all tips need to be paid through payroll.
Once you've selected a tip source (excluding We don't pay tips), a table will appear where you can choose which tip types should be paid via Salaris. The options within the table are dependent on the tip source selected.
A common example:
Cash tips — employees typically take these home at the end of their shift, so they usually don't need to be paid through Salaris. They are still reported on paystubs.
Credit card tips — these typically do need to be paid through Salaris during payroll.
When finished, select Save in the upper-right corner to apply your settings.
