Importing tips from your POS

Import cash and credit card tips from Shift4 dine via Workforce Management or other POS

There are two steps to manage tips in Salaris Payroll:

  1. Choose which tips to import from.

  2. Decide whether to pay those tips via Salaris Payroll or record them for taxation only.

Import Tips

  1. Go to Settings > General

  2. Import Tips

  3. Tip Source

    1. We don't pay tips

    2. Other - I'll enter them manually

    3. Workforce Management

    4. Genius POS

  4. Selecting Workforce Management for example, opens Tip type

    1. Select whether to pay tips via Salaris or not*

      1. Credit card tips

      2. Cash tips

  5. Select Save to apply settings.

*All tip values are included in payroll for tax reporting purposes. Check Pay via Salaris Payroll if you want to include imported tips in payroll payments.

Leave Pay via Salaris Payroll unchecked if employees already receive their tips directly (for example, tips are paid out at the end of a shift).

Tip Import Example

If an employee's timecards reports $100 in cash tips in Workforce Management, enabling Workforce Management as a tip source but disabling Pay via Salaris for cash tips means those cash tips are documented and taxed, but not paid again through payroll.

Tips can also be manually added against employee's during the run payroll process. You may wish to follow this process when tips are imported into a tip management solution and re-distributed based on defined rules.

šŸ’”NOTE:

  • The term "Cash tips" on the Import Tips screen refers to the method in which the tip was paid by the customer. (cash versus credit card)

  • The term "Cash tips" on the Run Payroll screen refers to the method in which the tip was paid out to the employee. (cash versus paycheck)
