Workplaces are important because they determine how state and local taxes are handled for employees. Salaris automatically creates and assigns workplaces based on your SocialSchedules locations, so there’s no setup required.

What is a workplace?

A workplace is the physical location where an employee performs their job duties. Correctly assigning a workplace ensures compliance with:

State and local income tax withholding

Employer state and local tax obligations

State unemployment tax

Local employment tax requirements

Primary workplace

Every employee must have a primary workplace defined to ensure payroll taxes are calculated correctly. Salaris automatically assigns a primary workplace during onboarding.

At present, Salaris only supports single-location businesses. For multi-location businesses, additional functionality will be needed in the future to allow companies to define a primary workplace if employees work across multiple locations.
